Scholarships

Types of Scholarship Awards currently offered by AAUW SH:

  • Pathfinder Award – Available to female SHHS seniors making a positive contribution to their school or community and whose parents or legal guardians do not hold a bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Luminary Award – Available to female SHHS seniors who demonstrate leadership, integrity, advocacy, and awareness of key issues
  • Achievement Award – Available to 2021 or 2022 scholarship recipients that finish their first year of college with a GPA of 2.7 or higher

The Pauline Chappell Memorial Scholars

Pathfinder Award: Arianna Rouse

Image previewAri was Art Club president and a member of the SHHS Diversity Club. She will attend Lake Superior State University to study political science. I have been engaged with politics and current events for years, but I also cherish the arts, such as literature and drawing as these crafts of culture uplift in hard times and inspire peace.”
 
According to Ari’s history teacher, “My favorite thing about Arianna is how persistent she is to better herself to be the best version of herself each and every day that she comes into our school. Arianna really is the type of person that can positively change the culture of any organization that she is a part of.”

Pathfinder Award: Jillian Carey

Image previewBecause she participated in the Middle College program during high school, Jillian has already earned an Associate’s degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Jillian will attend Central Michigan University as a chemistry major, in part due to the influence of her high school chemistry teacher.
Jillian’s employer describes her as “smart, dependable, and hard-working.” She adds, “Jillian demonstrates initiative by recognizing what needs to be done before being asked. She is a terrific team player who will succeed in any endevour she partakes in.”

Luminary Award: Abigail Grabner

Abbey Grabner will attend Western Michigan University to major in music education. 
“I hope to inspire new generations through music and to provide a safe space for my students to express themselves with music.”
 
Her AP History teacher writes that Abbey is “one of the most dedicated and hardworking individuals I have ever met. She has demonstrated strong leadership skills through Orchestra section lead, Tri-M Honor Society and the Quizbowl team. She has consistently shown a willingness to learn and has taken on challenging projects with enthusiasm.”

Achievement Awards

Leslie, who just completed her sophomore year, attends the University of Michigan, majoring in chemical engineering.

Hailey just completed her sophomore year at Western Michigan University and is majoring in business and communications.

Ellie just completed her sophomore year at Oberlin College and is majoring in computer science and sociology. 

Sydney Barnes has completed her freshman year as a pharmacy major at the University of Michigan.
 
 
 Jessica Arvizu has completed her freshman year at Michigan State University where she is majoring in human development.
